Abstract

The article aims to study the phenomenon of corruption in Brazil. Objectively, the history from the arrival of the Portuguese to the Brazilian coast. The text addresses the first cases of corruption, as well as the perception, by historians who settled here, in the colonial period, about the small infractions and the “little advantages” observed in the daily life of the newly founded society. Historical facts involving the topic are covered, such as examples involving the slave market and gold exploration. The study addresses the so-called “Brazilian way” and its characteristics, in addition to the historical origins of the legislation that deals with the central theme of the article. The final part addresses the sociocultural impact of corruption, as well as its influence on politics and the effects on the relationship between public and private.
